Even Hans Albers sang about Hamburg's lively atmosphere in his famous folk song, recommending a visit "On the Reeperbahn at half past midnight." But the Hanseatic city on the Elbe also offers many impressive facets during the day, such as the Port of Hamburg or the world-famous Speicherstadt (warehouse district)... fish sandwiches and bad weather included.
But a visit away from the tourist hotspots is also worthwhile. In the northwestern Hamburg district of Eidelstedt, you'll find Waffen Hansen, a specialist gun shop founded in 1992 by Jens-Peter Hansen and run by owner Sven Brütt since 2008. Their extensive product range includes a wide variety of weapons and, since 2000, increasingly also outdoor and security equipment.
It's initially surprising that owner Sven Brütt had a rather reserved, almost Nordic, attitude towards knives for a long time: "I probably got my first knife in the German army. Before that, I never had much interest in them." This changed abruptly, however, when in 2001 he held a simple 39 DM knife in one hand and a high-quality Chris Reeve knife for 400 DM in the other. His enthusiasm and interest in high-quality knives grew steadily, so that in the early 2000s, Sven Brütt also included Böker knives in his product range. The collaboration deepened continuously, and a pleasant business relationship developed, which to this day is characterized by high mutual respect: "Especially in the beginning, Böker really made a lot possible and experimented with us. Particular highlights for us were the two limited-edition CDC (Custom Design Collection) special models from Böker, for which our store was able to serve as a model. It was also exciting to get to know Böker's large dealer network at the exclusive company events."
Another personal highlight is the "Böker Plus Cox" series, designed by knife designer Jens Ansø. Sven Brütt is particularly impressed by the Böker Plus Cox Pro Cocobolo , thanks to its harmonious choice of materials and its practical everyday usability, compliant with §42a of the German Weapons Act. "I'm happy to present the Cox. The design, blade shape, and feel are simply perfect. Fans of the Cox and Haddock are sure to follow," Sven Brütt is confident.
Besides the expert advice, his customers also appreciate the personal, family atmosphere in his shop. The motto for knife enthusiasts on the Elbe and Alster rivers is therefore: "No long talk – come to Waffen Hansen and buy a knife."
