The Böker family's toolmaking workshop – and it became the symbol of a brand that today stands worldwide for high-quality knives, precision, and craftsmanship. The family officially adopted the tree-shaped coat of arms for the first time in 1674.
Register. Even back then, Böker tools were considered quality products that quickly became established in Germany and neighboring countries.

As demand for edged weapons increased, brothers Hermann and Robert Böker began manufacturing sabers in 1829. By 1830, 64 blacksmiths and 47 grinders were producing around 2,000 sabers per week.
Expansion followed quickly: in 1837, Hermann Böker founded H. Boker & Co. in New York, while Robert opened up new markets in Canada and later in Mexico.

In 1869, Heinrich Böker laid the foundation for the manufactory that still exists today with the founding of Heinr. Böker & Co. in Solingen – the legendary “City of Blades”.

Expansion – Tree Brand becomes a global promise of quality

International demand for razors, scissors, and pocket knives grew rapidly. To make the brand clearly recognizable worldwide, Heinrich Böker adopted the tree logo for his manufacturing – a symbol that remains associated with quality, tradition, and Solingen craftsmanship to this day.

Tree Brand quickly became a trademark for knife enthusiasts worldwide. Although the original chestnut tree was destroyed by lightning in 1925, it lives on: its wood was carved into the iconic Böker logo, which still adorns the entrance of the Solingen factory today.

As early as the beginning of the 20th century, the US market was Böker's most important sales market. Pocket knives became bestsellers, and Böker soon produced in both Solingen and the USA.

World War II – Destruction, New Beginnings and the Resurgence of the Böker Brand

With growing success in the USA, two product lines were developed – marked by the stamps “Boker USA” and “H. Boker Improved Cutlery Solingen”. But the Second World War brought a turning point: The Solingen factory was completely destroyed, machines and samples were lost, and the US trademark rights were confiscated.

It wasn't until 1947 that John Boker Jr. succeeded in buying back the rights and relaunching Boker USA. In Solingen, the returning skilled workers rebuilt the factory stone by stone. The quality remained unchanged – and Boker USA soon became the most important partner once again.

Subsidiaries – Building a global network

In the 1960s, collaborations with large American distribution partners strengthened the brand's recognition and enabled important modernizations in Solingen.

In 1986, the US trademark rights reverted to Germany – the starting point for the re-establishment of Boker USA, Inc. in Denver, Colorado, which continues to successfully serve the North American market to this day.

In 1983, Boker Arbolito SA was founded in Buenos Aires. The household, hunting, and outdoor knives manufactured there quickly achieved cult status in South America. Until 2020, all Böker logos featured the double trademark "Treebrand & Arbolito" as a symbol of this strong connection.

Pioneering work – knife innovation from Solingen

Böker is one of the world's most innovative knife brands. Some of the most important milestones:

  • 1980: First series production of pocket knives made of Damascus steel – a collector tradition that remains popular to this day.
  • 1990s: Introduction of the Magnum Collection as well as the Böker Plus and Magnum product lines.
  • 1995: Presentation of the Böker Speedlock – one of the most successful automatic knives worldwide.
  • 2000s: Outside of Japan, Böker is one of the pioneers of high-performance ceramic blades for kitchen and pocket knives.
  • 2002: Development of the iconic Böker Kalashnikov knife series in personal collaboration with General Kalashnikov.


The company's growing success led to the construction of a new, modern headquarters in Solingen in the late 1990s, complete with an integrated flagship store. In 2000, Böker was among the first German companies to launch its own online shop.

Today & Future – Böker as one of the world's leading knife brands

In the 2000s and 2010s, Böker developed into the leading European supplier of sporting, outdoor, and collector's knives. Trust, craftsmanship, and international partnerships continue to form the foundation of its success.

The future has a clear focus: North America. With significant investments in its US subsidiary in Denver, Colorado, Böker is tapping into the enormous potential of the growing markets in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
