My favorite knife | Lorenzi

Mein Lieblingsmesser | Lorenzi

Whether in a horse-drawn carriage, on the Prater amusement park, or waltzing along to a waltz – there are countless ways to discover and explore the beautiful city of Vienna. It's not just the numerous sights that lend the Austrian metropolis on the Danube its proverbial charm, but also its friendly and warm-hearted people. Always a good idea: a slice of Sachertorte paired with a touch of Viennese wit – a treat for both the palate and the mind.

Incidentally, the invention of the Sachertorte is only three years older than the specialist shop "Lorenzi Fine Steelware & Sharpening," founded in 1835 and run by Andreas Lorenzi in its sixth generation. Then as now, the shop welcomes its customers at Siebensterngasse 41 in Vienna. As the oldest Viennese company of its kind, this traditional establishment can now look back on 185 years of expertise in knives and their professional care. Lorenzi consistently manages to recognize the signs of the times without losing sight of its traditional roots. The integration of the sharpening workshop into the specialist shop and the opening of the showroom (Galerie Scharf Sinn) in 2017 were logical decisions, offering customers a complete package and thus significantly contributing to customer loyalty.

Andreas Lorenzi's passion for knives was ignited in his early childhood: "The fact that I grew up in my mother's shop from a very young age, going in and out almost daily after kindergarten and school, laid the foundation for my enthusiasm for knives. However, the spark was truly ignited during my teenage years when I first attended the American Blade and Knifemakers Guild shows. At the tender age of three, I received a 100th anniversary model of a Victorinox 'Tourist' from the then sales manager of the Rösler company (a long-time wholesaler in Austria) at a trade fair my mother took me to."

Versatile outdoor knives have always been a focus at the Lorenzi family business. Andreas Lorenzi's great-grandparents were already sourcing and selling knives from Böker. The long-standing and trusting partnership with Böker is characterized by great respect and mutual appreciation. Lorenzi Stahlwaren receives expert advice and support from Böker's various departments. The owner adds with a smile: "I remember quite clearly when my mother had a customer in the shop one Saturday with a specific question and simply called Solingen. Much to her surprise, she got the senior manager, Mr. Ernst-Wilhelm Felix-Dalichow, on the phone. He said matter-of-factly: 'But Mrs. Lorenzi – who else do you think works here on Saturdays?' And, of course, the question was answered precisely!"

The Böker Plus Urban Trapper Petite presents itself as both user-oriented and precise. "I particularly appreciate the symbiosis of the high-quality titanium handle and the ball-bearing VG-10 blade. The practical one-handed operation and the unbeatable price of less than €120 are, in a sense, the icing on the cake for this compact gentleman's knife. In short: Design x Material Mix + Build Quality : Price = Böker Plus. This formula promises maximum utility, and thus the Urban Trapper Petite is rightly my favorite Böker knife, which, incidentally, is also very popular with my customers."

The ongoing redesign of the online shop represents one of the next steps for the Viennese "Feitel Fürsten" (Austrian for pocketknife) towards the future, which Andreas Lorenzi, his team, and his customers are already eagerly anticipating. The Böker cultural tip: After a slice of Sachertorte and a Viennese Melange, a visit to Lorenzi's finest steel goods and sharpening service is highly recommended.
