PATINA [ˈpaːtina] Italian patina “thin layer”, “varnish” is a surface (structure and color) created by natural or artificial aging. Not only since sustainability, handcrafted products and local patriotism became social trends, but these themes have also been inextricably linked to the Böker DNA.
Lifetime guarantee, free resharpening service, and a high level of vertical integration have distinguished us since our beginnings in 1869. Products that last for decades and can be passed down to future generations are meant to show their age and history. These signs of use don't diminish their value, but rather are an expression of quality, uniqueness, and their story. The patina that our new Böker Patina chef's knife series develops after only a short time through contact with acidic foods is by no means a defect. On the contrary, the dark color, which develops during oxidation through contact with certain foods and water, serves as a protective layer, thus increasing resistance to external influences. The fine structure of the non-stainless O1 carbon steel, combined with the exceptionally thin blade, guarantees excellent edge retention and superior cutting performance.
Quality lies not only in the materials used, but also in the production process. Forging in the Solingen die and the subsequent hand-finishing make each knife an absolute one-of-a-kind. This, like the composition of the Böker Patina series, is further enhanced by the use of brass rivets and exceptional scales made of stabilized curly birch . This exclusive, hand-selected handle material, similar to the finest burl woods, impresses with its vibrant, flame-like grain. The Böker Patina series, with its classic three-rivet design, comprises three models with carbon steel blades and a chef's knife made of hand-forged Damascus steel.
