Rex Applegate

Rex Applegate wurde 1914 in Oregon geboren, wo er schon in jungen Jahren das Schießen und Jagen beigebracht bekam. Nach seinem Abschluss an der Universität trat er 1940 in den Dienst der US Army. Kurz vor Beginn des Krieges wurde er Mitglied des OSS, dem Nachrichtendienst des Kriegsministeriums der Vereinigten Staaten. Die Aufgabengebiete des OSS umfasste die operative Beschaffung von Informationen, Desinformation, psychologische Kriegführung, Partisanen-Unterstützung, Asymmetrische Kriegführung, Sabotage und Spionageabwehr.
Col. Rex Applegate trainierte Spezialeinheiten der Alliierten im Nahkampf und gründete die "School for Spies and Assassins" im heutigen Camp David. Er koordinierte geheime Operationen in ganz Europa und wurde zur Bewachung von Präsident Franklin D. Roosevelt eingesetzt. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg arbeitete er weiter als Berater und Ausbilder, schrieb zahlreiche Bücher über Nahkampftechniken und begann mit der Entwicklung und Verbesserung von Kampfmessern.
