My favorite knife | The engraver Kaufmann

Mein Lieblingsmesser | Der Graveur Kaufmann

"Every boy needs a knife and a cord!" With these words, Andreas Kaufmann revels in childhood memories, his mind's eye wandering over hill and dale amidst lush green meadows and magnificent forests at the foot of the Bavarian Alps. Always with him: a proper knife (also called a folding knife, from the Bavarian word "zammfoitn " - to fold together). This Bavarian wisdom has guided generations of children in the responsible use of knives, enabling them to better discover and explore the magnificent Alpine nature.

Today, Andreas Kaufmann is a master engraver and co-owner of "Der Graveur Kaufmann" (The Kaufmann Engraver). The master workshop in the heart of Garmisch-Partenkirchen was founded in 1952 as an engraving workshop and is now run by the third generation, Andreas and Georg Kaufmann. Traditional craftsmanship has been cultivated with passion ever since. This allows the owner to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces for his customers from special products like no other. In addition to gold and silverware, he engraves knives, cutlery, belt buckles, and even glassware. Since 1988, a shop selling select handcrafted items, knives, and silverware has also been located in the charming pedestrian zone of Garmisch.

Occasionally, Andreas Kaufmann's gaze falls upon a special knife. There, on the handle, is an engraving with a specific date. It's his very first knife, a gift from his grandfather for his First Communion, and it significantly contributed to his passion for knives and engraving. It's no coincidence, then, that a large part of the shop's inventory consists of various types of knives: pocket knives, fixed-blade knives, kitchen knives, and even straight razors . Böker products have been a staple in the display at "Der Graveur Kaufmann" for over 10 years, delighting both the owner and customers. The company behind the product is also a perfect fit: "Our relationship with Böker has always been based on trust and mutual respect. This has allowed us to expand our product range year after year, making the traditional company Böker a key pillar of our offerings." The expansion of the online offering, planned for spring 2021, represents another important step towards the future and combines the values of traditional craftsmanship with a modern and sales-driven internet presence.

The Böker 1906 also perfectly embodies the harmony of classic values and high everyday usability. Andreas Kaufmann raves: " A true classic that was lost for a long time and has now recently been restored. I especially like the clear, charismatic lines without any frills. The solid 440C blade and the secure back lock harmoniously complete the design."

In an increasingly hectic world filled with soulless mass-produced goods, more and more customers are yearning for the lovingly handcrafted products of yesteryear. "Our company, as well as the Böker company, can authentically represent these values through their history."

With his masterful engravings, Andreas Kaufmann creates extraordinary works and gift ideas that might just become tomorrow's childhood memories. Traditional craftsmanship to marvel at – it'll take your breath away!
