With its warm hospitality, medieval charm, and vibrant traditions, the tranquil town of Reutlingen welcomes numerous visitors from around the world each year. Known as the gateway to the Swabian Alb, this Baden-Württemberg city also boasts a remarkable curiosity: Spreuerhofstraße, with an average width of just 40 cm, is considered the narrowest street in the world – earning it an entry in the famous Guinness Book of Records. Equally noteworthy is the small, specialized company Brucklacher, established in 1888, which focuses on Solingen steel goods and attracts connoisseurs of high-quality knives, scissors, and weapons from across the region.
Gottlob Brucklacher founded a blacksmith shop with a retail store for knives and hunting weapons in the late 19th century. Since 2006, the fourth generation, Michael and Gisela Wurster, have been running the business with passion and enthusiasm. Their main focus is on selling cutlery, sporting firearms, and souvenirs. They also have an on-site sharpening service, offering customers a comprehensive after-sales service package. Even major upheavals such as wars, economic crises, and the COVID-19 pandemic have not shaken one of Reutlingen's most enduring pillars in over 135 years. Their recipe for success has always been to adapt to changing circumstances and requirements without losing sight of the company's historical roots and values. Personalized on-site consultations, a wide selection in the store and online shop, and the warm Swabian atmosphere are just some of the reasons why customers keep coming back, sometimes traveling hundreds of kilometers to visit. Tradition creates a bond, because for many, the shop is a vivid childhood memory that makes them feel like children again: " Sometimes grandparents or parents come into the shop with their children, who themselves pressed their noses against the shop window as kids." The carefully measured expansion of the product range, for example, flags for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, is often a door opener for further, future sales. And if, later on, a high-quality, durable chef's knife is desired, the right person to contact is immediately available. "A customer once said to me: 'I'm too poor to buy a cheap knife ,'" says the owner. "Good quality may be more expensive initially, but it's the most economical in the long run. Good blades can always be resharpened, so a knife becomes a faithful companion for life." Many customers share this view, which is why the knife sharpening service is always very popular.
The Böker Plus Lockback Bubinga is also enjoying high demand. " A practical pocket knife with a nail nick and modern back lock combines classic flair with high functionality and timeless character. The ideal two-handed knife for everyday use with the usual Böker quality."
Michael and Gisela Wurster are already looking forward to the next visit of their customers, to find the next knife for their business in a rustic, relaxed atmosphere in the region.
