Since a second locking model was still unavailable, we opted for our Model 93, a standard pocket knife from the Böker Classic series, which was primarily manufactured for the USA and, in a limited form, is still sold there today. For the first time, we worked with briar wood, a very, very hard wood compared to thuya. As is well known, it is often used for pipe bowls. Milling the small pocket for the serial number plate, numbering the tiny plates, embossing and then oxidizing the bolsters with the Solingen city coat of arms—all these were new tasks for us, and we had to prove ourselves. Incidentally, today we laser-cut the blades from the supplied liners. Back then, the stamped cuts had to suffice for regular production. Because the Damascus steel was delivered much harder than the standard steel, we had to learn to heat the Damascus liners until they glowed red-hot to make them more pliable and thus avoid damaging our cuts. The print run was increased to 500 copies and the price was 260 DM.
