A German-American, an avid big-game hunter, helped us develop this model. The 2000 series is still part of our standard range today, after we shipped tens of thousands of these knives with different handle materials, blade shapes, and steels all over the world. We were the first to discover the Thuya burl for the knife industry. Compared to briar, there were significantly larger Thuya burls in southern France and North Africa. This allowed us to craft this substantial knife with handles made from this expressive wood without much difficulty. The solid bolsters are cold-formed from brass, requiring a 200-ton press to generate the necessary force. The new, contemporary 2000 model and the high acceptance of the Böker Damascus series gave us the confidence to increase production to 999 pieces. We still consider this number to be just right and will not increase it further. The price at the time was 360 DM. In the very first year, a considerable list of standing orders developed. Customers placed firm orders without even knowing what the new annual knife would be. We rewarded this by guaranteeing customers the same serial number for all their knives. As a result, many collectors, both domestic and international, now own all 29 knives in the series – each with the same serial number.
