This folding knife is by far the most popular knife from Otter. The history of this model goes back to 1867 when the India Works of Heinrich Kaufmann & Sons developed and manufactured the Mercator knife and registered it as D.R.G.M. (Deutsches Reich Gebrauchs Muster). Only the India Works were allowed to use the Mercator brand. Otter has owned the trademarks since 1995. During World War, the knife was known far beyond the borders of Germany, when it was issued to the soldiers of the German army under Emperor Wilhelm II. The end of the Second World War II brought about a breakthrough, with the knife becoming a cult object abroad. For American GIs returning home from Germany, the Mercator knife was one of the most popular souvenirs. Even today, the famous cat with the characters K55K - from Kaufmann's address at 55 High Street, Katze (cat) - is applied by hand in genuine gold paint. The metal box construction of the handle (powder-coated steel) means the knife is stable, flat, light and handy. An ideal daily companion, suitable for any jacket or trouser pocket. The finely ground stainless blade is made from the finest Solingen steel and locked securely with the back lock. Incl. metal eyelet on the handle end.

Cut injuries: The most common danger when using knives is the risk of cuts. Sharp blades can quickly penetrate skin and tissue.
Slipping of the knife: Improper or excessive pressure can cause the knife to slip, resulting in uncontrolled movements that can cause injuries.
Injuries due to falls: Knives should never be left unsecured or near table edges to prevent them from falling and injuring someone.
Blunt knives: Blunt knives pose a greater risk of injury as they require more force and can slip more easily. Knives should therefore be properly sharpened regularly.
Improper use: Using a knife for tasks for which it is not intended (e.g. as a lever tool) can not only damage the blade, but also lead to accidents.

Kult

Einfach,schlicht und genial von der Funktionalität. Die Verarbeitung ist höherwertig, als es der Preis vermuten lässt. Die gepließtete Klinge steht mittig und ist rasiermesserscharf. Nicht nur durch die flache Bauweise ein wunderbares EDC mit geschichtsträchtigem Kultstatus.
Hätte es schon viel früher bei meinem Fachhändler zur Ergänzung meiner Sammlung begutachten sollen. Der günstigste Preis hat mich in diesem Fall nicht so etwas wertiges vermuten lassen, bis ich es in der Hand hatte...
