Description
Description
Paul Alexander is one of Spyderco's most popular and prolific designers. With his first non-locking folding knife, the NAND, Spyderco delved into his "techno-primitive" design style, combining sleek, futuristic lines with classic simplicity. This inspired the COBOL, which combines his unique take on the Ball Joint Non-Locking Mechanism with a more dramatic, Asian-inspired aesthetic. The upswept blade is a blend of traditional Japanese tanto patterning and the katana-like tip of an American tanto. Precision-machined from particle-metallurgical M390, the saber-grind primary bevel blends seamlessly into a flat grind at the faceted tip. The other end of the blade features an extended projection that allows for one-handed opening like a classic straight razor. The COBOL's handle features solid titanium scales with integrated spring arms and ball bearings. When opening the knife, the ball bearings engage the holes on the side of the blade, holding it in place. Hand pressure on the end of the blade and a generous groove at the base of the blade further ensure a secure grip. To complete the fully ambidextrous design, the COBOL features a reversible deep-pocket wire clip (tip-up).
