Unlike many barbershops in major cities and European metropolises, this barbershop and hair salon for men from the Rhine-Main region is located in the idyllic Mainz district of Hechtsheim. Ample parking in front of and behind the building is not an exception here, even during the busy daily routine of a barbershop, but rather a given.
The love for a feel-good atmosphere is truly in the details here: countless shaving accessories from bygone eras, dimmed lighting, comfortable leather sofas and high-quality real wood furnishings bear the unmistakable signature of owner Barber-J Jerome Kantner, without appearing cluttered.
Even as a teenager, Jerome made no secret of his passion for hair and unusual hairstyles, sporting a mohawk and dyed hair. It's no surprise, then, that he began his career in 1985 with a traditional hairdressing apprenticeship and, after various positions in the Rhine-Main region, realized his dream of owning his own salon in 2007. Jerome's mastery of his craft is evident upon entering the salon, as evidenced by the numerous diplomas, awards, and certificates he holds. By winning the German Championship, Barber-J, as Jerome was known to friends and acquaintances even during his youth, qualified for the World Championship in men's barbering in Lisbon and subsequently secured the title of World Champion/Global Champion 2014.
Thanks in no small part to his award as the world's best men's hairdresser, his status as an American Crew All-Star, and his membership in the Rheinhessen hairdressers' guild, Jerome is internationally renowned and in high demand for trade fairs, training courses, and seminars worldwide. Back in September, Jerome shared the stage with Böker at the Barber Convention in Düsseldorf, where he demonstrated professional wet shaving live with his limited-edition, forged Böker Barber-J straight razor .
